Welcome to Hilary Term with OUWC!
We are looking forward to an exciting term with weekend trips, day trips, and local walks! Winter solstice has passed by – days are getting longer and longer again. Wake up from your hibernation and join us for a Hilary Term full of fun.
On our Minibus day trips we will be heading to New Forest, South Downs, and the Black Mountains. A big weekend trip will also bring us to Southern Snowdonia. Sign up online in week 1 or at our ‘Free Tea’ event.
If you want to join a walk on short notice there are our ever popular local walks. This term is coming up with walks in both the Cotswolds and the Chilterns, along rivers, to the grave of Agatha Christie, to C.S. Lewis’ former house, and much more. Just be at the right time at the meeting point and you are in. No membership is required for local walks.
Our main social event in Hilary Term is our annual dinner. If you cannot make it to this social don’t worry, there will be other socials as well. Join us for a games night, a pub quiz, and many other events. Details to follow closer to the time!
This term, I am keen to encourage everyone to get involved more with the club, whether that is organising a trip for Trinity term or leading a local walk. The club is run on the basis of people volunteering their time to organise these trips – it’s not too much work and we can team you up with more experienced members to help. More importantly, organising a trip is the best way to go walking in the places that interest you! We need drivers too – if you are over 21 and able to drive, consider taking the minibus test. This gives you a guaranteed spot on trips. Please also consider joining the Committee at the TGM towards the end of term!
If you don’t feel up to organising a trip but still want to get more involved with hillwalking in general, then you may be interested in mountain skills training and first aid courses we are going to hold this term. Watch this space for details!
Finally, don’t forget that the club offers the opportunity for keen walkers to find like-minded people to join them, whether that is for a walk locally during the vacation or for something more adventurous like trekking in Europe or scrambling in North Wales. If you have any questions about the club or want to get more involved in some way, then please contact me at (firstname.lastname@example.org).
