London Loop Northwest

PSA: This is not an ‘official’ local walk. I wanted to do this walk, and figured I’d advertise it in case anyone else wanted to come along. For those of you still around this summer I’m planning to walk part of the London Loop between Uxbridge and Hatch End/Northwood northwest of London on Sunday 6th August. It will be a fairly easy-going walk about 20km/13miles in length, and anyone is welcome to join me. I will be leaving from Gloucester Green bus station, around stand 4, at 9:15am (so aim to get there at 9am please). We should be back no later than 9pm (but that’s bit of a guess). Info: The route involves walking along part of the grand union canal to start, before heading northeast through various parks, fields, woodlands and golf courses of London’s surrounding historical green belt, with good views to boot. There’s much more information on the London loop website here: tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/loop-walk I will be doing sections 12, 13 and 14 as they are the most easily accessible by public transport from Oxford. Getting there/back: I will be getting the Oxford Tube/X90 from Gloucester Green bus station to Hillingdon and the tube one stop to Uxbridge. On the way back I will be getting the bus H14 or H12 from Hatch End to Harrow-on-the-hill tube station to catch the tube 7 stops back to Hillingdon. It will take about 1h30 to get there and 2hrs to get back. Cost: A return ticket for the bus to Hillingdon costs £14 if you are a student or under 26, £18 otherwise. The tube to Uxbridge is £1.50 (unless you have a railcard loaded on your oyster card in which case it’s £1). Bus is £1.50 and tube back to Hillingdon is also £1.50 (£1 railcard). You will need an oyster card or contactless credit/debit card. This is in addition to buying food if you want it. Total: £17.50-£22.50 + food Food: I will be bringing a lunch and snacks with me but there are plenty of places enroute to buy food. No need let me know if you’re coming, just turn up on the day.
