South Downs

The South Downs are a range of rolling chalk hills stretching across Sussex and Hampshire in South-East England. In 2010 they became the UK’s newest National Park. From the ridgeline stunning views range from the English Channel to the South, across the Weald to the hills of the Greensand Ridge and North Downs in Surrey. In this 20km circular walk we will be taking in Ditchling Beacon, the highest point in East Sussex and 3rd highest in the South Downs, and Devil’s Dyke, a steep-sided chalk valley said to have been built by the Devil in an attempt to drive the sea through the hills to flood the land behind!
