Welcome to Trinity Term with OUWC!
After a long dark winter, days are longer, temperatures are rising, and nature awakens anew. So no reason to cut down on weekend trips, day trips and local walks! Trinity Term is going to be busy with weekend trips to Gower at the south coast of Wales, to Cornwall washed round by the Atlantic, and a camping trip to Wasdale in the Lake District. On our minibus day trips we will be heading to the Forest of Dean, the Roaches, and the Brecon Beacons Waterfalls.
For everyone staying over the summer in Oxford the weekend trip to the Yorkshire Dales is highly recommended. If you want to join a walk on short notice there is our ever popular local walks. This term is coming up with a joint walk with the Cambridge University Rambling Club, the Uffington White Horse, Stone Circles, and much more. Just be at the right time at the meeting point and you are in. Our social events calendar is also full with the Annual Punting Party being the main event – details to follow closer to the time!
This term, I am keen to encourage everyone to get involved more with the club, whether that is organising a trip for Michaelmas term or leading a local walk. The club is run on the basis of people volunteering their time to organise these trips – it’s not too much work and we can team you up with more experienced members to help. More importantly, organising a trip is the best way to go walking in the places that interest you! We need drivers too - if you are over 21 and able to drive, consider taking the minibus test. This gives you a guaranteed spot on trips. Please also consider joining the Committee at the TGM towards the end of term!
If you don’t feel up to organising a trip but still want to get more involved with hillwalking in general, then you may be interested in map reading/navigation evenings and other skills evenings planned. Watch this space for details!
Finally, don’t forget that the club offers the opportunity for keen walkers to find like-minded people to join them, whether that is for a walk locally during the vacation or for something more adventurous like trekking in Europe or scrambling in North Wales. If you have any questions about the club or want to get more involved in some way, then please contact me at ().
