Stonehenge is one of Britain's greatest national icons, symbolising power, mystery and endurance. Theories about who built this colossal monument have included the Druids, Greeks, Phoenicians and Atlanteans, and speculation on the reason ranges from human sacrifice to astronomy. Also in Wiltshire and just 4 km away from Stonehenge are the Avebury Stones, which with a diameter of 427 metres make the largest known stone circle in the world. In a scenic and interesting day trip we will carry out two short circular walks with views over and passing through both ancient monuments.
