TT02 Welcome

Get Out Of Oxford With OU Walking Club

Hooray, it's summer at last, and welcome back to Oxford! Despite the city looking pretty when the sun is shining, the insightful amongst us know that the place to be during Trinity term is on a hill or at the coast, rather than fighting the stress induced by tourists and congestion...

This is why there are six weekend trips plus two minibus trips planned this term to places which are at their best without fog or frost. If the prospect of sand dunes and salty air Does It for you, then head for the Celtic coastlines of Cornwall, Exmoor, Pembrokeshire and Dorset, which promises excellent walking and stunning landscapes. For anyone suffering from Hill-Withdrawal-Symptoms (quite common in Oxford), the Yorkshire Dales, Snowdonia and Forest of Bowland will provide opportunities to ascend some hills. Watch out for this year's Summer Schedule, including a 5-day trip to Wales and other activities to carry on enjoying the summer sun.

As usual, each weekend two local walks will take place around the Oxfordshire area, encompassing the Cotswolds, Chilterns and much more. Lots of new routes have been discovered and planned, as well as some of the most requested and enjoyable walking being brought back. As part of the training schedule which the club is currently offering, first aid and leader training opportunities will be available - we'll keep you updated throughout the term.

On top of all this, the social schedule has been set to enable the most to be made of the long daylight hours. Many outdoor events have been planned for the term, including the Punting Party Extravaganza. If the rain does stop play, there's always the option of migrating to the nearest pub.

To sign up for weekend and minibus trips you should come to our 'Free Tea'. Put the date in your diaries now: Wednesday 24th April at 5:00pm in Wadham College Old Refectory. If you cannot make it then, you must arrange to make payment to the Trip Leader by the end of 1st week, as the trip places will then be allocated.

For those with exams looming, good luck - remember that books can be taken outside of the libraries for more effective revision!

It's gonna be a hot one...

President
