Welcome back to Oxford, and an action-packed Trinity Term with OU Walking Club. As spring gives way to summer, the sun will shine and the birds will be singing, so why not escape from the pressures of life and get out into the wide, open countryside around Oxford and beyond?
Local walks this term will be rather more irregular than usual, but we hope to have two local walks each weekend during the second half of term. These use public transport, so you can just turn up on the day and explore Oxfordshire, the Chilterns, the Cotswolds and many other places for only a few pounds. For our members, the transport costs are subsidised to make getting away from it all a little easier on the wallet. And as always, we will be doing our termly bike ride, and the night hike for our more nocturnal members.
For only £5.50, our minibus day trips are fantastic value and open up new possibilities for walking in more distant places - this term they go to the Forest of Dean, the South Downs, and the first ever club trip to Stonehenge. For those wanting a complete weekend away from Oxford, our weekend trips are great value, costing either £28.50 or £35.00, including accommodation, transport and food. These will go to Cornwall and Teesdale this term. Of course, walking isn't the only thing we do, and this term will offer many opportunities for you to hang up your boots and let your hair down a bit in the long summer evenings. Walking Club social events this term will include the Punt Party, ice skating, a video night, a climbing evening, and last but quite definitely not least, the notorious Pub Ramble. Don’t forget to drop into St. John's Bar, on a Thursday in odd weeks, if you want to meet other walkers, meet the committee or find out about walks.
To all those of you with exams this term, good luck (if you need it!). I hope you all have a great term.
