The Thames by Moonlight

Saturday 24th July 2010 (finish on Sunday 25th)

Night walks give you the opportunity to enjoy familiar landscapes in a new light, avoiding the heat of the summer. For this night walk we will walk by moonlight at a leisurely pace from Abingdon to Oxford mostly along the Thames path, passing several weirs and locks on the way. The night of the walk is just 24 hours before the full moon.

As the walk will follow the Thames path the terrain should be fairly even and thus the walk should be easy. However we may encounter some patches of mud (especially if it rains the week before). In addition to the usual gear (good shoes, waterproofs, water and snacks) please bring a torch in case the light of the moon is not enough to see the path.

The meeting point will be at the bus stops on St Aldate's at 22:00 to take the X3 to Abingdon. Return to Oxford around 02:30. A restaurant or pub for a pre-walk dinner at 20:00 will be announced later.

Note that if you live in east Oxford you will be able to leave the walk at Iffley Lock or Donnington Bridge.
