Winchester

Saturday 30th October (end 3rd week)

We'll spend the day exploring Britain's newest National Park - the South Downs. The area is famous for its rolling hills, wild flowers and crystal-clear streams. Our route will take in the historic city of Winchester, the capital city of the Saxon kingdom of Wessex, and home of Alfred the Great. Bring a packed lunch, wear boots, and be prepared for rain. NB there will be no walk leader at Oxford station, but look out for other people in hiking gear. Barney Stratford, the walk leader, will meet the group at Winchester station.

Time: Meet at Oxford railway station at 0915 - buy off-peak day return tickets to Winchester. Catch 0935 replacement bus to Didcot. 1025 train Didcot to Winchester. Arrive Winchester 1124
Fare: £14 with railcard, £21 without railcard.
Return: Returning, catch 1731 train from Winchester, change at Didcot, arrive Oxford 1920
