This term we will visit the Patterdale area in the north-east of the Lake District. We’ll stay in a bunkhouse on a working Lakeland farm situated by the village of Glenridding, at the base of Helvellyn. Other great peaks like Nethermost Pike, High Crag, and Dollywagon Pike are also close by. A short drive away is Blencathra, sometimes called Saddleback. This solitary peak offers a variety of ascent routes and panoramic views of the Lakeland peaks and even Scotland and the Pennine hills from the summit (in good weather!) Whatever walks we choose, each day is likely to include a fair bit of ascent, possibly off-path some of the time, and – weather permitting – beautiful mountain and lake views.
