Wenlock Edge

Saturday 11th November 2006 - End of 5th week

A long narrow escarpment of limestone rising 100m above the surrounding fields, Wenlock Edge runs in a continuous ridge across the picturesque Shropshire countryside. It was immortalised as the subject of many of AE Housman's poems in his renown volume "A Shropshire Lad" and the "blue remember hills" he described can be appreciated at various points along our walk - see if they inspire you as they did Vaughan-Williams, who composed an entire song cycle "On Wenlock Edge". We will be following paths through the coppices and woods that cover the Edge. With some luck and spare time, we could even poke around for fossils!
