Emma Despland and Richard Gibbs travel to the Peak District, Britain's first National Park, in a trip that is likely to be dominated by graduates because of the timing. The name Peak District is a bit of an anomaly, as there is no single summit: it derives from the old English word 'peac', meaning knoll or hill. The Peak District has deep-cut limestone dales with fast-flowing rivers and gorges, as well as high peat-covered moorland, with prehistoric burial mounds.
