EXTRA WALK: Wittenham Clumps and the Thames Path

Saturday 16 April (Easter vacation)

From Didcot Parkway station we will walk up to Wittenham Clumps, small hills with good views over the surrounding flat landscape, then descend to nearby Days Lock on the River Thames, and follow the river (Thames Path National Trail) for the rest of the walk.

Each person individually will have several options (listed below) for how far to walk, as near the river are several railway stations on the Oxford-Paddington line. The led walk will be as far as Reading, so challenging options are available. Some of the shorter options involve up to 2km after leaving the led walk (included in the distances shown). This will involve only straightforward route-finding, and appropriate map printouts will be provided.

Destination options (prices are for return rail tickets without railcard):

(Note: you may also be able to join the walk after the start, if you are flexible to fit in with the timings of the group and not vice versa. Please email the leader if interested.)

Meet: Railway station 08:20 and see travel details below
Lunch: bring a packed lunch - you'll want plenty if doing one of the longer options, but short stops to buy extra food are possible
Leader: Alan Iwi ()
Travel details: Come to Oxford station in good time for a train at 08:37. Buy return tickets for your choice of destination as per full description, but get off at Didcot Parkway (due 08:49) on the outward journey. The leader will meet you in the ticket hall at Didcot Parkway.
