Oxfordshire Way 5: Hanborough to Charlbury

Saturday 5 March (7th week)

This week's walk is in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Following last week's walk which reached the Blenheim Palace estate, this week we will be exploring less visited parts of the estate including the woods near the Combe Lodge entrance, before resuming the Oxfordshire Way route as far as Charlbury via the village of Stonesfield plus a diversion to North Leigh Roman Villa. Depending on arrival time in Charlbury, there may be an optional diversion to see part of Cornbury Park across the Evenlode valley while awaiting the return train (although there are also several pubs, and buses to Oxford).

The first part of the route is rather indirect, so there are opportunities for short-cuts which would allow for example an extended break for photography. Anyone wishing to do this should bring map OS Explorer 180, be comfortable with navigation, and have a mobile phone.

Distance: 18.5km
Meet: railway station, 9am
Lunch: bring a packed lunch
Leader: Alan Iwi ()
Return: by train from Charlbury (arrive probably 4.30pm)
Cost: £5.30, less with railcard
