Lake District

16-18 February 2007 (end 5th week)

Area: Lake District
This trip is full

We will be heading to Borrowdale for some proper mountain walking! The barn is ideally placed for some of the biggest fells in the Lake District, and we may well head up Scafell Pike — the highest in England! Hence this trip is not for the inexperienced or faint-hearted, as the walking will be long and strenous over steep and rocky terrain! Hopefully though, the effort will be rewarded with great views of the surrounding lakes and fells, and the satisfaction of a good day’s peak-bagging...

Please note that this trip will not be run as a normal OUWC trip where the group is led by leaders. We will soon be having a change in policy in the club, the aim being to move towards trips where small groups of participants self-lead their own walks and do their own planning, navigating etc rather than following the leader like sheep! The Lakes trip is going to be run as a trial of this system. Hence you will be expected to take an active role in the walks -- the leaders will be present (in line with current policy) but will be "shadowing" rather than leading.
Also, the new policy will make it mandatory for all participants to have attended a basic skills and safety evening before they go. Hence we will also be running a trial evening, and it will be compulsory to attend this. Date is tbc at the mo but it will likely be the week before the trip.
If you have any questions about how the trip will be run, please don't hestiate to contact me on president (at) ouwc.org.
