Welcome back to Oxford. Once again, it looks as though the weather is going to play a major part in our activities this term, particularly with the amount of snow that is around at the moment! However, whether bright and sparkling or peaceful under a blanket of snow, the hills and valleys offer a splendid alternative to the grey city centre.
As usual, there are two local walks each weekend. Explore Oxfordshire, the Chilterns, the Cotswolds or even further afield for only a few pounds. For our members, the transport costs are subsidised to make getting away from it all a little easier on the wallet!
There are six minibus trips this term, which will visit different English counties that are further away than the scope of a local walk. For just £6.50 you can have a day out at the New Forest, the Black Mountains, the Long Mynd, the Mendips, the Cotswolds or the Roaches. For those wanting a complete weekend away from Oxford, there are six weekend trips this term, for just £30 or £35. Incredibly, this price includes transport, accommodation for two nights and five generous meals. There are trips to the Peak District, Lancashire, Snowdonia, the Lake District, the Brecon Beacons and the North York Moors.
To sign up for weekend and minibus trips you should come to our 'Free Tea'. Put the date in your diaries now: Wednesday 16th January at 5:00pm in Wadham College Old Refectory. If you cannot make it then, you must arrange to make payment to the Trip Leader by the end of 1st week, as the trip places will then be allocated.
The Club's social events are the perfect opportunity to meet up again with all those people you met on the term's trips. This term we will meet in the non-smoking room of the King's Arms at 8pm each Wednesday, before moving on to another venue for a range of activities including: a games evening, ice skating, and a pancake party. On top of this, there will be a Valentines Party, and also the highlight of the club's social year - the Annual Dinner!
I was pleased to hear that the UK has now been free of Foot and Mouth disease for over three months - hopefully we will not have to deal with a recurrence. Have a great term - I hope to see you all on walks and at our events!
